Fujifilm's Real Photo Processor 3D merges the images taken from the left and the right lenses to create a single MPO image file. This can then be viewed on the camera's 2.8-inch LCD, or transferred to the specially designed 3D digital photoframe, the Fujifilm Finepix Real 3D V1.
3D video
The W1 camera is able to capture 3D video footage (640 x 480), which is saved as a 3D-AVI file. According to Fujifilm, around an hour of 3D video can be saved to an 8GB SDHC memory card, while the same size card can store around 530 3D photographs taken at the highest resolution.
The Fujifilm W1 camera features many functions that you would expect from a regular compact digital camera, including a flash, a range of shooting modes, several white balance presets and a self timer. There's a 3x optical zoom, which can be digitally increased to 3.8x when taking 3D images, and 17.1x when taking regular 2D images.
No larger than a regular compact digital camera
There's 48MB of internal memory, and the ISO sensitivity can be set between 100 and 1,600. Face detection is possible when taking photos in standard 2D. The zoom can't be used when recording video.
The W1 is no larger than a regular compact digital camera. It's around 124mm wide, 68mm high and 26mm deep. Fujifilm claims that it weighs 260g without its battery and memory card.
Emerging 3D photo technology
Richard Parris, Which? digital camera expert, said: 'We're already seeing big steps forward in 3D technology within computer games, TV, and cinema entertainment. It'll be interesting to see if digital photography follows in suite, and how well products such as this are received.'
The 8-inch Finepix Real 3D V1 picture frame is expected to launch alongside the W1 camera. It has an 800 x 600 resolution screen, 512MB of internal memory, and is able to recognise xD, SD and SDHC memory cards. It has a 4:3 aspect ratio and weighs 630g.
Digital camera reviews
The Fujifilm W1 camera is expected to sell for around $600, and the V1 digital picture frame is expected to retail at around $200.
